When BankservAfrica set out to launch PayShap, one of the most ambitious financial initiatives in South Africa’s recent history, it was clear from the start: this wasn’t going to be your average project rollout. It was complex, collaborative, and critical to the country’s financial future. And at the heart of its success? A well-crafted, carefully executed change management strategy was designed and implemented by Change Logic.
The Challenge: Big Vision, Bigger Complexity
PayShap is more than just a real-time payment platform. It’s a leap toward financial inclusion. It’s a system built to simplify digital transactions and empower users nationwide. But turning that vision into reality meant aligning a diverse ecosystem of banks, each with its own internal systems, priorities, and people.
BankservAfrica quickly realised that traditional change management wouldn’t cut it. With multiple moving parts and no room for missteps, they needed a partner to bring structure, clarity, and direction. That’s where Change Logic came in.

A Framework That Made the Difference
We stepped in with a structured, data-led change management approach that did more than just tick boxes; it created a roadmap that guided stakeholders through every project phase. From preparation to implementation and finally reinforcement, each step was designed to make adoption easier, smoother, and faster.
Together with BankservAfrica, we embedded this framework into the project’s DNA. It wasn’t just about managing change but about making change an enabler of progress. We developed templates, training materials, and communication toolkits that empowered even the banks without dedicated change teams to stay on track and aligned. After all of this, BankservAfrica owned their bespoke framework, ensuring sustainable change and longevity of budget spend.
Why It Worked
This wasn’t just theory: it was practical, tailored, and designed for results. By approaching the rollout of PayShap through a lens of collaboration and clarity, we helped BankservAfrica avoid the delays and disconnects that have slowed down similar projects internationally.
While countries like Canada and the US are still working through their versions of real-time payment rollouts, South Africa’s PayShap went live swiftly and successfully. The structured change approach gave everyone, from internal teams to banking partners, the confidence and capability to implement PayShap without disruption.
Setting a New Standard
The feedback spoke volumes. Banks praised the process. Internal assessments showed strong support and readiness. And most importantly, PayShap is already making a difference in how South Africans send and receive money.
For us at Change Logic, this project was more than a success story; it was proof that change management, when done right, doesn’t just support a project; it transforms it.
What’s Next?
BankservAfrica is now embedding this framework into future projects, having seen first-hand the value of doing change differently. For Change Logic, this is just another chapter in our mission to put the science – and the data – into change.
